LEBABEL

Between reading and performance, LEBABEL is a poetic listening project created by Brazilian poets Dado Amaral and Pedro Lago, produced by La Centrale 22.

Poets from different nationalities are invited to read their poems, each in their native language. The audience will listen to the music, rhythm, and assonances of the language.

If the poem is, as Valéry says, “that prolonged hesitation between sound and meaning,” our culture still privileges meaning. LEBABEL proposes a return to the appreciation of the intrinsic musicality of the poem and the poet’s voice that recites it.
